ISMB presents the “Movie on the Road” app, based on the new CDVS technology

On June the 10th, the Multimedia Adaptation and Interaction Research Unit will participate in the event titled "ISO/IEC artificial vision standards for new services and industrial applications" organized in Milan by UNINFO, the entity federated with UNI and delegated to information technologies and their applications.

During the event ISMB will present the “Movie on the Road” application, which has been developed within the MultiLayer Wireless Solutions Research Area, in collaboration with Sisvel Technology and the National Cinema Museum Association, as a proof-of-concept of the Compact Descriptors for Visual Search (CDVS) technology that is going to be standardized by the end of 2014.

The application proposes an alternative way to visit the city through the most important locations of movies shot in Turin. Built around the MPEG CDVS technology, Movie on the Road has now morphed to application for smartphones and tablets that allows tourists to “navigate” the Turin of Cinema through their smartphones’ camera. The user takes a picture of an interest point, the application extracts relevant compact descriptors, finds the specific location and returns to the user contents related to the film set such as clips of the movies shot in the location and other content such as backstage footage provided by Film Commission Torino Piemonte.

The event will be attended by representatives of the Italian industry participating in the development of the CDVS standard under UNINFO, such as Cedeo, Telecom Italia, Sisvel Technology, RAI, ST Microelectronics, Sisvel Technology and ISMB.
