ISAST
The research area is divided into three units: Infrastructures and Systems for Advanced Computing (IS4AC); Microsoft Innovation Center on SW Technologies and Architectures; Handheld and Usability (H&U). The area also benefits from the contribution of the TORSEC group of Politecnico di Torino (http://security.polito.it) in the field of logical security.
The IS4AC unit has a strong experience in the computing infrastructures for processing large amounts of data, particularly in the study and implementation of solutions based on grid and cloud computing (public and private) and on db clusters, with emphasis on scheduling processes, management of computing resources and infrastructure integration. It has worked with the UN WFP to monitor global rainfall and with ASI on the analysis of GPS signals for meteorological purposes. Trials are in progress on techniques for Next Generation Sequencing applied to mRNA. From 2010, the group actively participates in the European Grid Infrastructure.
MIC Torino began its activities in 2007. From 2010 is part of ISMB and its technological focus include: development of embedded software solutions, cloud computing and advanced training. The goal is to create an ecosystem around these technologies by partnering with leading industry players. The area related to cloud and mobile developed strong skills on the Microsoft AZURE cloud platform and the new Windows Phone 7 operating system. Moreover, there are also skills in prototyping and manufacturing Microsoft solutions for embedded systems, and in the related advanced training.
The H&U unitfocuses on multiplatform systems which provide the convergence of mobile services and information in real time. The skills are: life cycle management of mobile services, mobile terminals and their operating systems, User Centred Design, cartography and short-range communications. Among the projects: a platform for rapid development of mobile services and solutions for deploying Web-based applications providing convergence and context adaptation, within the fields of smart health, smart city and IoT.
